AI Information Programme

'....Artificial Intelligence (AI) is the branch of computer science focused on creating systems capable of performing tasks that typically require human intelligence. These tasks include learning, reasoning, problem-solving, understanding natural language, and perception. AI can be categorized into narrow AI, which is designed for a specific task, and general AI, which has the potential to understand and perform any intellectual task a human can....'

This Information Programme provides a basic brief overview of AI and its main components, highlighting key topics of interest in the field.
It does NOT include practical guidance on using AI for writing, translation, web search, document summarization, tool selection, generating content from your own documents, creating learning courses, or detecting and avoiding AI-generated text.

From fintech to healthtech, African enterprises are already running on AI-powered systems — yet too few leaders, educators, and policymakers truly grasp how these machines think. Most AI today is narrow— task-specific, not omniscient — and misunderstanding that fuels both misuse and fear.AI literacy isn’t about coding; it’s about competence — knowing when to trust, question, and govern intelligent tools. For Africa’s universities, governments, and SMEs, that understanding is the bridge between automation and autonomy. If we build capability before dependency, we won’t just adopt AI — we’ll shape it on our own terms.
